INSPIRING VISIONS
I gather design inspiration throughout my visual interactions of each day. Shapes of clouds in the sky, tracks left behind by the snow plow and swirls of oil in the pot of soup on the stove all inspire creative thoughts. I am drawn to architectural design with it’s organic layering, size and shape interaction. This allows light to highlight highs and lows, drawing your eyes to specific points.
The two architectural designs above represent designer Thomas Heatherwick’s unique sculptural architecture which have sparked fascinating inspiration in my work.
Achievements don’t happen without the proper tools. This goes for everything in life, especially crafting. When it comes to perfecting design, you have to get deep down and dirty!
From soldering with a torch to drilling, sanding, buffing and polishing,
you can only get results with tools, your hands and a great pair of magnifying glasses. Of course my hands are always dry and my nails broken off but I chalk it up to delving into what I enjoy most. Give your best to what you love to do and make sure to get a little dirty in the process.
Mid-Winter is when I clean, reorganize and purge in my studio. It’s a great time to gather and donate materials that are taking up space. I enjoy donating my crafty materials to friends or their children…constantly promoting creativity.
Assembling jewelry is an adventure that I enjoy. Sometimes I lay all the pieces out ahead of time but often my design sense happens along the way. What do you have at home to be creative? Grab some wire start bending and twisting to see what you can make. Creativity happens, you may just surprise yourself.
Enjoy!
Created during the Pandemic of 2020, the Isolation Series stems from the overwhelming angst of isolation and continual mundane repetition from day to day. Wire shapes overlap in a small mass of confusion with no escape. However, at second glance, you notice that each overlapping piece in fact does have a start and end resulting that with careful maneuvering, there are ways around the isolation and hope is in sight. Each design is a one-of-a-kind piece of art, made with thought and emotion.
